The soccer school from Usme wins award in Monaco
Last November 20, Constructors Of Peace Colombia (COP Colombia), a soccer school in the town of Usme, received the special jury's award at the 2021 edition of the Peace and Sport Awards in Monaco. The award, which is supported by the Principality of Monaco and several elite athletes, was given to this organization for its work in consolidating peace initiatives through physical activity.

COLOMBIA: WHEN THE SOCCER BECOMES A WEAPON OF PEACE 🕊️
On November 13th and 14th , hundreds of young people were able to participate in an exceptional edition of the Friendship Games in Colombia and discover together the positive values of sport.
Why have you organized this event? Simply because Colombian youth have been affected for too long by the consequences of an armed conflict - which ended in 2016 with the signing of a historic peace agreement between the Colombian government and the FARC-EP (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia). The Victims Unit, the agency responsible for the care and reparation of victims of the armed conflict, estimates that more than 2.5 million children have been affected by the violence.

Colombia vibrates with the Friendship Games!
Bogota, Sunday, November 14th, 2021. To celebrate six months of the implementation of the Peacemakers project, which is being carried out in 10 countries, including Colombia, with the NGO COP Colombia, a special edition of the Friendship Games was organized, supported by Peace Sport.
PEACE AND SPORT AND THE PEACEKEEPERS OF COLOMBIA CELEBRATE THE FRIENDSHIP GAMES!
On November 13th and 14th, 300 young players from the "Escuelas de mi Barrio" program led by the IDRD and the "Goles en Paz" program led by the municipality of Bogota, as well as children from Medellin, will join the beneficiaries of the Peacemakers Project and their peace animators to participate in a special edition of the Friendship Games. Together, they will learn the positive values of sports. The first event will take place at Campincito Stadium in Bogotá, and the second at Aurora Stadium in Usme.

SOCCER, A UNIFYING TOOL FOR PEACE
The story of COP (Constructors of Peace) Colombia began when my son, Gerson Florez, became the spokesman for children affected by landmines. He was later recognized internationally for his role as an advocate. After more than 50 years of internal armed conflict, Colombia's Victims Unit estimates that more than 2,500,000 children have been affected by the violence.
In 1998, Colombian President Ernesto Samper invited Gerson to the inauguration of the National Peace Council as a children's representative. He worked at the Hague Peace Appeal Conference in 1998, where he spoke about the war on behalf of Colombian children, and won the Youth Prize for Peace and Tolerance in 1999. In 2002, he was nominated by the Belgian Ambassador to Colombia for the King Baudouin Prize and the Nobel Peace Prize.

Cop Colombia International and Constructors of Peace join the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.
The United Nations General Assembly, underscoring in its resolution 67/296 that sport can promote peace and development and contribute to an environment of tolerance and understanding; and recognizing that sport, as a tool for education, development and peace, can promote cooperation, solidarity, social inclusion and health at the local, national and international levels, decided to proclaim April 6 as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.
We will celebrate the international day of sport for development and peace 2021.
